The late Garry Shandling--boxing enthusiast and friend of Duchovny--was on set the day of the boxing scene. I first admired Garry's comedy in his appearance on the animated series Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist (which I accidentally memorized due to listening continuously). During filming, Garry ad lib-ed several lines, suggesting we incorporate them into the bout. Director John Dahl agreed, and Garry's lines, [Hank:] "That was low." [Laura]: "Sorry...." (followed by another low blow), made it in the final cut of the scene. This exchange is my favorite part of the scene and a memorable moment in my acting career.
