BIOGRAPHY

Laura Niles is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, performer, designer, and curator based in Los Angeles. Her work spans functional objects, digital projects, publishing, moving image, writing, and performance.

In 2022, Laura founded Show.Room.LA, a gallery and curatorial project focused on functional art and collectible design. Her practice includes furniture, sculpture, woodworking, woodturning, welding, archival and design research, film, interactive digital projects, 3D printed objects, and lighting. She is a member of the Glendale Woodturning Club.

Her background also encompasses film, television, stand up comedy, writing, editing, publishing, and directing. A member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1997, she made her directorial debut with the short film Class Photo.

Found object furniture study inspired by Wendell Castle’s sculptural approach to furniture.

Squiggle Lamp Series and Squiggle Story
Design and fabrication of approximately fifteen lamps. The project includes Squiggle Story, a short film conceived as a biopic of a lamp.

Woodworking and Woodturning
Ongoing practice in woodworking and turned wood objects. Member of the Glendale Woodturning Club.

Researched artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, cryptocurrency, blockchain, big data, data architecture, and related technologies.
